Biography

“You can take the lawyer out of Philadelphia but you can’t take Philadelphia out of the lawyer.”

Since 1993, when he graduated cum laude from what is now the Beasley School of Law at Temple University in Philadelphia, Matthew Roazen has practiced in many roles and several cities around the world. Whether as one of the first American lawyers to practice in the American office of a Russian law firm, as a corporate partner in a foreign office of one of the largest US-based global law firms, as the general counsel of a nine-figure emerging market private equity tech fund, as the chief international counsel to the largest private banking group in post-Soviet Russia and Ukraine, or as an independent legal professional serving clients around the block and on the other side of the planet, Mr. Roazen has built a wealth of experience that allows him to take a holistic approach with any client’s legal needs. Matthew knows that each legal situation is unique and deserving of careful attention and he enjoys the variety and diversity that each new matter brings him.

For the past decade, Matthew has provided direct legal support to founders, entrepreneurs, executives, and investors at every stage of the business life cycle from the garage to the trading floor in various industries primarily in technology, media, and telecommunications (“TMT”), but with practice experience that extends beyond TMT to traditional and digital finance, biotechnology and health science, consumer goods, and international commercial transactions. He also represents a number of creatives and publishers in the video game, digital entertainment (from K-12 to NSFW) and traditional literary publication industries. In addition to his work at Roazen Legal, Matthew serves as Of Counsel to a large number of other small- and medium-size law firms across the United States and in the United Kingdom.

In law school, Mr. Roazen was an associate editor of the Temple Law Review and served a one-year judicial clerkship clinical with a federal district judge in New Jersey. Having received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Russian and having both studied and worked in Moscow for over 16 years, he is fluent in spoken and written Russian. In addition to his professional legal experience, Matthew has also taught legal courses in settings as varied as a graduate studies law school in Moscow to an art and design college in Florida.

Mr. Roazen is licensed to practice in the courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and in the tribal courts of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. He is married with four adult children and two adolescent poodle mixes. When not at his desk, Matthew is probably in his garage working on one of his second-hand telescopes as he tries to master the basics of astrophotography.

At whatever stage of your business journey, Matthew is ready to discuss with you how he and Roazen Legal can provide seamless legal support at all levels.
